Hi my name is Raymond! Before we get started, Let’s play a short game so we can get to know each other! Okay lets make an LGC – Large Group Circle. Let’s go around saying our name, our school and one thing we’re really passionate about, or one thing you really like to do. Don’t be embarrassed about what you find to be really important, everybody is different and that’s awesome. I’ll start. My name is Raymond, I go to Francis Libermann and I really love Art.

Wow, that’s really cool! Some of you have some really interesting passions! It’s important to be passionate about something because when you have passion, and there’s a need of the community, then where they cross, is your opportunity. For example, if you are really passionate about helping the poor, and you know that a need of the community is soup kitchen volunteers then there is your opportunity to make the world a better place. That’s something you should really remember. Now do the actions with me! Cool, thanks for getting that down! Remember what today’s workshop is called? Well, today’s workshop is called “How to Walk Your Talk”. Who can tell me what you think it’s about? Bascially that’s it! It’s about going out and achieving your dreams instead of just wishing for them to happen. The first step in “walking your talk” is being authentic. Who knows what authentic means? It means to be real! Well being authentic really means to be true to yourself about what you want. It also means to do good even if its not to impress anyone. Because if you’re a “leader” when you’re in front of others, but not when you’re by yourself, then the only person you’re hurting/lying to is yourself. Know the seriousness of what you’re doing and do it well. When you find your passion, follow it. But make sure you are being true to yourself because in the end it’s what you care about, not what other people care about it.
If you don’t know what you’re passionate about, go out there! Try new things! you never know what will click with you! It could be a sport you’ve never played before, or a club or a cause you’ve never heard? Some of you are going to highschool and there are so many opportunities in high school that you don’t want to miss. GET INVOLVED! I guarantee you that you will meet so many more people and have so much more fun if you get into clubs and teams. It can range from soccer to social justice. I personally have a passion towards helping kids with mental ilnesses. I never knew that I wanted to do that before, until one day, my friends asked me if I wanted to help at Camp O with some autistic children. I thought I would never want to work with children and now It’s what I want to pursue in my life. Who has a PAST program at their school? I helped them have a camp Olympia just like this one! The moral of the story is that you might need to search a little bit to find what you love to do, but when you have it, put in a lot of hard work and you can accomplish amazing things. Now that you have found something you care about a lot, make a goal. It’s important to set small goals because they keep you moving forward without scaring you. For example, if you play soccer, maybe something you can work towards is scoring a goal in the next game. It’s important that you BE AUTHENTIC because if you want to score a goal, it’s going to take a lot of hard work, and it’s easy to quit when you don’t really care about what you’re doing. What I want you to remember is to find what you love to do and stick with it! If you are true to yourself about what you want to achieve, and if you put in the hard work, youll be amazed what you are able to do one small goal at a time. BE AUTHENTIC! Once more before I’m finished, what does be authentic mean? Find what your passionate about and do it for you, not for anyone else!

Skit - how do you overcome people going against your dream? Maybe recognize that people are against you for a reason, and thats why should look for other opportunities. Also it will take some time to find what you love.

Be authentic- Do good even if its not to impress anyone. Because if you’re a “leader” when you’re in front of others, but not when you’re by yourself, then the only person you’re hurting/lying to is yourself. Know the seriousness of what you’re doing and do it well.

Open your own doors- Especially after high school, there’s no announcements or teachers asking you if you want to take part in leadership opportunities, you have to make opportunities for yourself. There’s no more silver platters, its a matter of do or don’t do. If you’re serious about leadership, you’ll find a way, or make a way to lead.

Don’t just say, do- It’s not enough to talk about being a leader or talking about doing leadership opportunities, you have to actually do it. Actions speak louder than words. You have to make an action plan and follow through with it to actually achieve your goals. Words don’t get you anywhere, actions do.
